I Read Coraline for the First Time at 23… and Here’s What She Taught Me
This novel is far too 2020.
I have been a long time fan of Neil Gaiman for as long as I can remember. I have a first edition of The Graveyard Book and no; I didn’t hunt it down, I bought it when I was ten… am I old or do I just seem it? Who knows?
Anyway, you know what time of year it is if you are a Goodreads kind of person — trying to use those last two weeks of the year to push through your yearly goal (can I read eight books and write a decent ten thousand words of my novel before January? We will see). My solution to upping my reading was visiting kids books I’ve never read and can read pretty quickly as I ignore those tombs sitting on my TBR list for Coraline.
Gaiman misspelt Caroline one day, and it looked like an actual name. He submitted it and someone said it was too scary for children until they read it to a child and the child wanted to know more. Turns out the kid was really scared but pretended not to be because she wanted to know the ending. Isn’t this all grown adults reaction to a horror movie date?
